Hot Spots
Hot spots are surface skin infections caused when populations of normal skin bacteria grow and overwhelm normal resistance. They are generally circular patches that lose hair, can be swollen, may exude a smelly pus, and can be painfully itchy, causing
your pet to scratch, lick, or bite to the point of self-mutilation. Untreated hot spots can spread and provoke a normally even-tempered dog to growl or nip when touched.
These troublesome sores can seem to arise in a matter of hours with no warning, but they do tend to follow a pattern that helps in predicting their occurrence.
Your poor pet's been licking and chewing on that spot on her flank for the better part of a day, and it's now a raw, open sore, oozing fluid - a hot spot.
Your pet has a superficial pyoderma, a skin infection known to veterinarians as pyotraumatic dermatitis and to dog owners as hot spots.
Hot spots
occur when your dog or cat starts attacking a specific area of his body. It usually begins with incessant scratching and licking. And when I say incessant , I mean constant - it's like a frenzy - he is completely preoccupied by that little problem area. When he does not get the desired relief from the scratching and licking, he begins to bite at that
hot spot
area. He will nibble and chew at it until all the hair has been chewed off. Then when that doesn't work (and it seldom does) he will start biting at his skin. I've seen
hot spots where the animal has bitten himself raw, sometimes right down to the bone. It's horrible to watch - especially because you feel so helpless. Your loved one is miserable and in terrible pain, but what can you do to help?
When we first had to deal with hot spots on our Shiba-Inu (You can read
"Fuji's Story"
here) we didn't know what to do so we took him immediately to the vet for treatment.
She prescribed Antihistamines and Prednisone - a steroid. We know that steroids can be harmful especially later in life, so we wanted to find an alternative ... something safer and natural that we could treat the hot spots with that wouldn't be harmful. These treatments aren't cheap either. It was costing us close to $400.00 per year JUST to treat Fuji's hot spots.
Our vet told us, as our research indicated, that these hot spots were most likely caused by an allergy to something - and that could be ANYTHING!
Our research led us to a product called FLORA PROBIOTIC PLUS. It helps rebuild the balance of "friendly"
microorganisms in your gastrointestinal tract, detoxify and cleanse your body, and actually reverse the imbalances that contribute to a barrage of health - and energy-robbing illnesses - including allergies responsible for causing most hot spots.
Dogs most susceptible to hot spots are those with heavy coats and histories of allergies, ear infections, flea infestations, irritated anal sacs, and grooming problems such as hair tangles and mats, but any dog
or cat can develop hot spots. Pets in warm, humid climates may develop hot spots when they shed their undercoats if the dead hair is trapped next to the skin, and dogs with behavior problems may mutilate themselves by licking and thus encourage an infection to become established.
The most common locations for hot spots are the legs and feet, flanks, and rump — areas that can be reached by licking or biting — but these localized infections can also appear on ears, neck, and chest if the dog is continually scratching.
I’m convinced your pet will enjoy a better quality of life too (and no more hot spots) with the natural health enhancing benefits of
FLORA PROBIOTIC PLUS.
Veterinarians recommend FLORA PROBIOTIC PLUS for all their
four-legged patients.
And for good reason!
DOSAGE INSTRUCTIONS:
For large and medium sized dogs: sprinkle one capsule of
FLORA PROBIOTIC PLUS on their food.
For cats and small dogs, sprinkle 1/4 to 1/2 capsule on their food once daily.
Nothing Works Better for HOT SPOTS!
This devastating condition usually only gets worse as time goes by.
Antihistamines, harmful Steroids - they take their toll on our pets as they get older - just like people.
They do offer relief in the short term, but your loved one just isn't the same - slow, listless, tired - just wants to lie around most of the day. No interest in his favorite toys or games - not to mention the weight gain.
Then the seasons change again and you're right back where you started. It's a painful merry-go-round. It's tough to watch your pet suffer so.
If you're anything like me, there's nothing you wouldn't do for your loved one. And this is SO easy.
All it takes is a small amount of
FLORA PROBIOTIC PLUS mixed in with his food each day.
Please take a moment and read
Fuji's Story.
